Introduction of HTS technology is the most efficient strategy for further development in utilization of the geostationary orbit, a precious resource, currently significantly overloaded. Therefore, over a period of time we will see a continuous replacement of the existing wide-beam satellites by next-generation HTS spacecraft. Along with the above-mentioned benefits, HTS satellites bring about some specific requirements that should be taken into consideration by the VSAT network designers. The main challenge, when migrating existing networks to HTS satellites, is ability of the Hub to support multi-spot operation. Comtech TDM/TDMA Hub allows to migrate from single Outroute (TDM) channel and associated Inroute (TDMA) channels to several subnetworks with dedicated Outroute and Inroutes channels for each spot of the HTS satellite. In the most cases such modification is performed just by activation of software license, as far as every Comtech router on the existing Hub may support one Outroute and few Inroute channels.
