VSAT for HTS

VSAT for HTS

High Throughput Satellites (HTS) introduce a significant increase in capacity owing to high level frequency re-use and narrowly focused multi-spot beams. In contrast with traditional wide-beam satellite technology, HTS satellites have much more throughput, greater bit/Hz performance, higher data rates that can be transmitted by the same-size VSAT terminal. The next-generation High Throughput Satellites (HTS) extend this approach to the C-, Ku- and Ka-bands, thus making these satellites applicable for professional enterprise communications.

Highlights:
  • Multi-spot network architectures
  • Dual-band network overlays
  • High-throughput VSAT terminals
  • Software-definable functionality
  • Any topologies and frequency bands
  • Adaptive modulations and coding
  • Different applications in one network
  • Intellectual COTM beam-switching
  • HTS-compliant NMS with VNO support
Description

Introduction of HTS technology is the most efficient strategy for further development in utilization of the geostationary orbit, a precious resource, currently significantly overloaded. Therefore, over a period of time we will see a continuous replacement of the existing wide-beam satellites by next-generation HTS spacecraft. Along with the above-mentioned benefits, HTS satellites bring about some specific requirements that should be taken into consideration by the VSAT network designers. The main challenge, when migrating existing networks to HTS satellites, is ability of the Hub to support multi-spot operation. Comtech TDM/TDMA Hub allows to migrate from single Outroute (TDM) channel and associated Inroute (TDMA) channels to several subnetworks with dedicated Outroute and Inroutes channels for each spot of the HTS satellite. In the most cases such modification is performed just by activation of software license, as far as every Comtech router on the existing Hub may support one Outroute and few Inroute channels.

Advantages of HTS satellites, leveraged by high-performance Comtech satellite routers, deliver major benefits to various B2C, B2B and B2G market segments: consumer broadband, government, maritime and enterprise networks. HTS-enabled networks create a significantly more favorable economic model for wireless operators to use HTS for cellular backhaul. Advantages of based networks stem from unprecedented throughput of Comtech routers of up to 225 Mbps in each direction, highly-efficient adaptive modulation and coding up to 64APSK with 5% roll-off.

Comtech satellite routers provide customers with unique solutions to utilize a combination of C-, Ku-, and Ka-bands thanks to the built-in dual DVB demodulators with independent inputs and traffic balancer. Combination of several satellites beams or frequency bands within a single VSAT terminal ensures reliable communications for a real-time traffic and access to high-throughput Internet overlay based on higher  frequency bands with lower cost per Mbps.
