SSi Canada Bridges Digital Divide with Comtech’s High-Speed Ground Solution

Nunavut is the largest and northernmost territory of Canada. Comprising most of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Nunavut can only be accessed by air and sea and all communication with the outside world is done via satellite.

“Our only road or bridge is our backbone connectivity,” explained Jeff Philipp, CEO and Founder of SSi Canada. “Satellite links are all we have,” Philipp explained. “That’s how people across Nunavut communicate, how we bank, buy and sell goods and services, how we educate, build our businesses and receive medical advice and care.”

That connectivity lifeline was limited by an aging ground and geostationary satellite infrastructure that SSi had done its best to nurse along and harness for years to deliver its advanced QINIQ broadband Internet and mobile services to about 70% of the homes throughout Nunavut.

Comtech is connecting people, places, and businesses around the world every day with advanced satellite communications solutions. The collaboration between SSi and Comtech improved the communication capabilities and customer experience across one of Canada’s most isolated communities in a matter of weeks.
