Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS)

DSSS is a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) based approach with spreading sequences applied to continuous data streams through integer-based spreading value (2x, 3x, 4x, … 511x, 512x). Comtech’s DSSS can be used on any of the three (3) Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) families; High Performance (HP), Low Latency (LL) and Ultra-Low Latency (ULL). DSSS can be configured up to a maximum chip rate of 64 Mcps utilizing either 15th or 17th order polynomials, supporting up to 10,000 Gold Sequence Numbers (GSN) each. This enables the use of small antenna VSATs where minimizing adjacent satellite interference (ASI) is an important consideration. It can also be used to provide under the noise floor operation and/or strong resistance to jamming. ​

Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum – Multiple Access (DSSS-MA) 

DSSS-MA allows carriers to operate in a common spectrum while requiring the same carrier configuration, Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Spread Factor. DSSS-MA uses GSN’s, a.k.a. “Gold Codes,” to allow frequency reuse by specifically choosing GSN’s to reduce carrier to carrier interference. Carriers can be “stacked” up to the Spread Factor minus one (1) without additional degradation. DSSS-MA also uses a required and SMDC approved Closed-Loop carrier power management to ensure balanced power control for solid “group performance.”

Dynamic Adaptive Wideband System with Interference Suppression (DAWSIS)

DAWSIS is a new waveform designed to provide >4.5 bits/Hz performance in non-contended environments and interference resilience of up to >30 dB signal to Noise + Jammer. The objective of DWSIS is to develop a near-optimal spectral efficiency, fade and interference resistant waveform for satellite communications which is effective against a variety of interference types, including Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN). DAWSIS uses a robust sub carrier referred to as the “home channel” to support adaptive anti-interference, signaling, and synchronization for the “data channel.” This supports large dynamic range by adjusting the Modulation and Coding (MODCOD) and the Spread Factor of the “data channel” seamlessly without loss of user data.
